Tatay’s Death Anniversary

Dear Tatay,

Hello! How are you up there?

We are doing well here. Ella has graduated from high school. Nang has topped 8th place and now incoming 3rd year. Our life is productive and doing well too. Mama is happy and Daddy supports and loves us as if we are his daughters.

Tay, see? I am graduating in college now. Still, I am sad because you missed my graduations. You never experienced how to go up and down in the stage to receive my medals when I graduated in elementary and how I was heart broken when I did not get any award way back in high school. On April 27, I will be graduating in college having Industrial Engineering as my degree. Still, I’m battling for an award which I still did not tell Mama about that because I don’t want her to expect. Tay, please tell God to give me that award. That is all for you and Mama.

Please also pray for me because I will be having my second interview tomorrow at Rex Printing Company for the productivity analyst post. I am also planning to take a master’s degree and have a part-time teaching job.

I still miss you Tatay. I know we’ll see each other again, in God’s time. I love you Tatay.

Love,

Jhoy

P.S. Tatay, these were the only pictures I have. Sorry if it looks kinda old :)

The Cum Laude the University Never Had

He plays with numbers as if he is only eating korniks. He gives his opinions in doodles and scribbles. His words have the power to let people comprehend with his thoughts. He writes legibly and excellently with his smooth penmanship. He has the leadership destined to lead hundreds of people. His principles are firm. His character is highly commended. He has a photographic memory. He is the only hope of his not-well-to-do family.

He is the cum laude the university must have. Continue reading »

Continue reading »

17th Day of January, 2012

Dear B,

This day went no good.

I hate the fact that I’m no good help on you. I know I didn’t sustain your goal of me being your partner in that exhibit. But please understand that I am doing my very best to be of help on you. I hope you appreciated how I helped you compute for the scaling, in making rolled papers and working on the miniature trees. I was also hurt when you told me that what we were doing was not significant and that we were only chit chating. Pls understand that we were also working on a part of the miniature. I felt that all grudges were thrown on me. I was suffering from low self-esteem and insecurity. Continue reading »

Says a famous quote: The best things in life are free.

In the 2011 Philippines’ Budget, The Aquino Administration had sliced out the budget for education, which garnered different protests from all the concerned groups all over the country. According to the Discussion Guide on the 2011 Education Budget prepared by the Kabataan Partylist, there was only an allotted budget of P23.4 Billion for the State Universities and Colleges (SUCs) out of the P1.64 Trillion Budget of 2011. During 2010, the budget for education was P23.8 Billion.

Twenty-five out of 112 SUCs experienced budget cuts while 15 all the SUCs except 15 schools experienced deductions on budgets on Operations or Maintenance and Other Operating Expenses (MOOE). Some of the 25 schools were University of The Philippines (UP) with 20.11%, Philippine Normal University (PNU) with 23.59%, and University of South-eastern Philippines with 20.03%. Some of the schools that had deductions on MOOE were Southern Philippines Agri-Business & Marine and  Aquatic School with 66.27%, Southern Leyte State University with 64.03% and Central Bicol State University with 57.96%. In addition, there were no funds allotted for the capital outlay or construction of buildings. (Discussion Guide on the 2011 Education Budget, Kabataan Partylist) Continue reading »

The Importance of High School’s Research I in Taking Up College’s Research Subjects

Bernard Loomis once quoted: “The trouble with research is that it tells you what people were thinking about yesterday, not tomorrow. It’s like driving a car using a rearview mirror.”

When I was in elementary, I was already exposed to different applications of the principles and concepts of science used in investigating and discovering new products, processes or phenomena. When I entered high school, my passion for research became more intense  naespecially when I learned that there was certain subjects Research I and Research II in our curriculum. Continue reading »

1st day of January, 2012

Dear B,

Happy New Year!

It’s been quite a while since I last wrote to you. Actually, I was really inspired by the story of the blogger you told me, who was featured in TV5′s Real Confessions yesterday–that made me write to you again. He is Roy dela Cruz, a widower who made a blog titled “Letters to Mama” to cope up with his anxieties. I was really touched by his blog’s tagline: “maybe there is an internet to heaven.” The blog reflects how he struggled to move on, be a good father, loved his wife and missed her terribly. I salute him so much! Continue reading »
